Ross Lake A great car trip stopover

Ross Lake House is an intimate little country retreat that offers warm hospitality, country house charm and gracious living, that guests return to time and time again. This place is hidden away in the wilds of Connemara. Ross Lake Hotel is a quaint Georgian manor house set about six acres of rolling lawns, beautiful flowers and rambling woods at the head of a winding driveway that is located near a flowing stream. Ross Lake is a haven of peace and tranquility and exudes classic country house charm. Elaine and Henry Reid, the owners, offer the kind of warmth of hospitality that Ireland is famous for. Their vivacious warmpth has people returning to them year after year. The Reid’s friendly border-collie housedog Millie adds a unique touch to an already well-loved institution. Ross Lake is wonderfully set with period furnishing in its classy drawing room, cosy Library cum bar and intimate dining room that boasts of broad bay windows that overlook the manicured lawns of the gardens. Each one of Ross Lake House’s well appointed bedrooms are light and airy and individually decorated with tasteful furnishings. It has comfortable beds – some are even four poster or half tester beds – and are carefully laid out with the all the comforts that are necessary for a restful and happy stay. Dining at Ross Lake is also a very intimate and simple affair. Traditional Irish Country Cooking is what is served here and the beautifully prepared food uses the best local produce from the surrounding areas of Connemara. Ross Lake is about 3 kilometres from the town of Oughterard which is on the shores of Lough Corrib. This is considered as one of the best fly-fishing waters in Europe for salmon and brown trout. Boats and boatmen can be arranged with prior notice. Inquire with car hire companies about their car hire packages if you want to go travelling by car in Ireland and then staying the night at Ross Lake after a tiring car trip.
