Ireland boasts of some of the biggest rock festivals in Europe. Being the home of the rock band U2, the country already has a cachet in the world of rock. Most of the rock festivals that are must-see events in Ireland are usually held in areas that are far from the city. Most of these festivals have a Woodstock vibe as they are sometimes camp-in festivals. For the traveller or tourist who wants to visit Ireland to attend any one of Ireland’s rock festivals, the best way to do this is to travel by car. Car travel is the best option because it is cheap and it gives you control over your time. Car rentals in Ireland are very convenient and easy to do. There are a number of reputable car hire companies that you can contact to avail yourself of the service. One of the most popular rock festivals that a traveller can join in is the Oxegen Festival, which is Ireland’s biggest music festival. This festival, which is held at the Punchestown Racecourse, Co. in Kildare, Ireland, was formerly known as Witnness, but changed its name just last year. This year, the recently held festival was enjoyed by more than 70,000 fans over two days. A varied lineup of rock acts performed in six separate stages. This year bands like Green Day, Kaiser Chiefs, The Frames, Doves, and Echo and The Bunnymen wowed the crowds. Another popular music festival is the Slane Festival that is held at the historic Slane Castle in County Meath. The festival began 23 years ago and has hosted such acts as The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Neil Young, Oasis, REM, and PJ Harvey, among others. Travellers can decide to either sleep outside in a tent or sleep inside the car.
