Cashel Palace A wonderful car trip stopover

The Cashel Palace is an elegant and majestic place. The house itself has inspired countless travellers, writers and clergymen for centuries and up to the present it still continues to capture the hearts and imaginations of all its guests. One of the most striking features of the hotel is that even though architecture is all about formality the overwhelming atmosphere one feels is of warmth and welcome. The Cashel Palace Hotel is a Queen Anne and Early Georgian style bishop’s palace. It was built in 1730 by Archbishop Theophilus Bolton. The entrance hall has managed to retain its original wood panelling, along with two Corinthian columns. There is a magnificent staircase off the entrance hall and is made of Red Pine. This leads to the upper floors where there is a selection of luxurious, individually decorated bedrooms on offer. In 1959, the Church made the decision to sell the property and in May 1962 Lord Brockett first opened it as a Luxury Hotel. The Palace has been described as “a place of notable hospitality” in Loveday’s Tour of 1732. This description has remained an accurate description of Cashel to this day. The palace’s 28 acres of garden are, interestingly, older than the house itself. There are two beautiful Mulberry trees, planted in 1702, to commemorate the coronation of Queen Anne. These beautiful gardens surround the Rock of Cashel as well as the 13th Century Cathedral. The Bishop’s Walk, on the other hand, is a private path that leads directly to the Rock of Cashel. This path was built for the convenience of Archbishop Theophilus Bolton. Cashel Palace also owns a private five mile stretch of the River Suir. This provides guests with a most satisfying angler’ experience. There is something for golfers too as there are several Golf Courses to choose from all within easy driving distance of the hote. There are also Equestrian Centres, Scenic Walks, Historic Tours and Crafts Studios. Cashel Palace is a wonderful place to rest in after a grueling car trip through Ireland. Car travel is a wonderful way to see all of Ireland’s attractions. Car hire companies offer wonderful car packages for travellers.
