Car Hire Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about 353 car rental

Can you guarantee a specific car make and model?
We cannot guarantee a specific make or model but do guarantee to provide a car from the car rental group you have booked.  We do have a wide range of vehicles available, so we will try to accommodate any specific request you may have.

Can I upgrade my rental car?
Yes, if the upgrade is available. You can upgrade directly on our website in the ‘manage my booking’ section or you can contact our reservations team at reservations@353carrental.ie or on +353 21 4320755.

Can I add an additional driver to my rental agreement?
Yes, but please note that your rental car is only insured for one driver.  If you wish to add an additional driver you must do so at the start of the rental agreement.  We charge extra for additional drivers and they must comply with our Terms and Conditions.

Can I hire a baby or child seat with my car rental?
Yes.  We offer a full range of baby and child seats for children aged 6 months to 11 years.  You can hire a baby or child seat from us by booking in advance and paying an extra charge.  Please note that child or booster seats are compulsory under Irish Law for children aged 0 to 11 years.  You are liable for the fitting of the baby, child or booster seat in your rental car.

What payment methods do 353 car rental accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.  We do not accept Laser cards, Debit cards or UK Switch Cards, and we do not accept cash payments.

What is the fuel policy of 353 car rental?
It is our policy to offer you the convenience of a full fuel tank when you rent a car from us. You can purchase your fuel at the start of your rental period at a discounted rate.  If you rent a car for three days or longer, you should return your car with an empty fuel tank as we do not give a refund for unused fuel where the rental period is more than three days.

What payment options do you offer?
We offer you two payment options when you book your car rental.
1) Pay for your car rental in full at the time of booking (this option is better value as we give you a discount for full prepayment).
2) Pay only a booking deposit at the booking stage and pay the balance at the start of your rental period.

Does the credit card holder have to be the driver of the rental car?
No, but the credit card holder must be present on pick up of the rental car to verify payment.

What requirements apply for driver information and driver’s licence?
You must present a valid driver’s licence when you pick up your rental car.  The driver or drivers must have held a full driving licence for at least 2 years, issued in their country of residence.  They must also have at least 2 years continuous driving experience immediately prior to the rental.  If you do not comply with this condition your insurance will be null and void.  Please note that we do not require an International driver’s licence.   We charge a non-waiveable excess of €2,500 to holders of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Israeli licences.

What are your driver age limits?
To comply with our insurance terms, we impose the following age limits and conditions.

  • The driver of the car rental must be aged 23 to 74 years.  If you hold an Irish, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese or Israeli driver’s licence, our minimum age is 30 years.
  • We charge an underage surcharge of €10 (plus VAT) per day to drivers aged 23 to 26.
We restrict drivers aged 23 to 27 to driving cars of 1400cc or less (economy and compact car groups).
  • If you wish to rent a Minibus or Executive Car (Audi & Mercedes), you must be aged 30 or over.

What is an ‘on request reservation?
An ‘on request’ reservation means we must check the availability of your rental car before we can confirm the reservation. We will confirm or deny your ‘on request’ reservation within 24 hours.

What is Collision Damage Reduction (CDR) Insurance
CDR refers to Collision Damage Reduction Insurance, also known as Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Collision Damage Insurance (CDI).  If your rental car is damaged, CDR covers the costs of repair or replacement of the rental car.  You will have to pay an excess amount, which will vary depending on the car group you rent.  If you wish to significantly reduce the excess amount for which you may be liable, you can do so by availing of our Damage Excess Insurance (DEI).  For details of all our insurance options and excess reduction insurance options, please click here.
